What is this qualification about?
If you undertake the Diploma of Business you will learn a number of contemporary business practices, which can be utilised at entry level and middle management positions in business, office and administrative environments in both the private and public sectors. Individuals in these roles carry out moderately complex tasks in a specialist field of expertise that requires business operations skills. They may possess substantial experience in a range of settings, but seek to further develop their skills across a wide range of business functions.
The learning experience
The course is organised so that you are provided with an intensive, action-oriented, interactive learning experience. Case studies and live business situations are used to demonstrate how the theory applies to practical work situations. As a result of this process, you will acquire a broad range of business knowledge, skills, and techniques. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to immediately operate effectively in office work situations.
The qualification consists of the following units:
There are twelve units (5 Core + 7 Electives) to study to obtain the Diploma of Business. These units provide the skills and knowledge needed to work as a program consultant or coordinator.
|BSBCRT511 - Develop critical thinking in others
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop critical and creative thinking skills in others within a workplace context. The unit applies to individuals who are developing and coaching others, for whom critical thinking skills (including analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) are an important part of their job roles. This unit applies to individuals who are typically responsible for leading teams.
|BSBFIN501 - Manage budgets and financial plans
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management in an organisation or work area. It includes planning and implementing financial management approaches and supporting and evaluating effectiveness of financial management processes. The unit applies to managers who have responsibility for the effective use of financial resources within work teams and are responsible for ensuring that financial resources are managed in line with the financial objectives of the team and organisation.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage resources according to planned business strategies. It includes analysing resource requirements, developing resource plans, allocating resources, and reviewing and reporting on resource usage. The unit applies to individuals with a role in allocating and monitoring the use of physical and/or human resources to meet defined business objectives.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement workplace sustainability policies and to modify the policy to suit changed circumstances. The unit applies to individuals with managerial responsibilities who undertake work developing approaches to create, monitor and improve strategies and policies within workplaces. These individuals also engage with a range of relevant stakeholders and specialists. .

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead communication in the workplace within any industry. This unit has a specific focus on the communication skills required for team leaders with responsibility for other workers.
|BSBOPS504 - Manage business risk
This unit describes skills and knowledge required to manage business risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry.. The unit applies to individuals who are working in positions of authority and who are approved to implement change across the organisation, business unit, program or project area.
|BSBOPS502 - Manage business operational plans
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and monitor the implementation of operational plans to support efficient and effective workplace practices and organisational productivity and profitability. The unit applies to individuals who manage the work of others and operate within the parameters of a broader strategic and/or business plans.
|BSBOPS601 - Develop and implement business plans
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead a business operation that covers the steps required to develop and implement business plans. The unit applies to individuals who are running an organisation or who take a senior role in determining the effective functioning and success of the organisation. These individuals may oversee the work of a number of teams and other managers.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage effective workplace relationships. The unit applies to individuals in leadership or management positions who have a prominent role in establishing and managing processes and procedures to support workplace relationships. These individuals apply the values, goals and cultural diversity policies of the organisation. They use complex and diverse methods and procedures as well as a range of problem solving and decision making strategies, which require the exercise of considerable discretion and judgement.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead teams in the workplace and to actively engage with the management of the organisation.The unit applies to individuals working at a managerial level who lead and build a positive culture within their work teams. At this level, work will normally be carried out using complex and diverse methods and procedures requiring the exercise of considerable discretion and judgement. It will also involve using a range of problem solving and decision-making strategies.
|BSBSTR502 - Facilitate continuous improvement
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on the development of systems and the analysis of information to monitor and adjust performance strategies, and to manage opportunities for further improvements. The unit applies to individuals who take an active role in managing a continuous improvement process in order to achieve an organisation’s objectives.
|BSBPEF502 Develop and use emotional intelligence
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and use emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management in the workplace. The unit applies to individuals who are required to identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information from a range of sources and who deal with unpredictable problems as part of their job role. These individuals may be responsible for leading a team or work area.
Assessment occurs in a simulated work environment and consists of assignments, projects and presentations. Where students are employed, assessment can occur in the workplace.
This course can be delivered in a variety of formats including face-to-face over an extended period, in an intensive mode, online, or a blend of face-to-face and online.
