What is this qualification about?

The Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation is designed to develop entrepreneurial, intrapreneurial, and general business skills. You will learn how to generate new ideas and assess which ideas are business opportunities, establish and lead the core startup team for the early stage venture. You will understand the essential components of a business model by developing one for your venture – identifying how value is created and captured, and you will learn how to access financial and other resources for your new venture. This will include: business planning, identifying your target market, promotional plans and managing operations This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to identify and assess a new opportunity, plan, establish, promote and operate a new venture. You will also learn to establish the legal and risk management requirements of small business in a wide variety of startup business contexts.  

This qualification will also be valuable if you are already in an established business venture undertaking intrapreneurial activity, entering the family business, or considering setting up your own business venture. 

What will you learn?
The qualification is designed to provide you with an intensive, action-oriented, interactive learning experience. You will identify a business opportunity (real or imagined) with a designated mentor before classes commence. The focus is on real-world application of knowledge and skills, and you will develop a business model and business plan during the course. This course is intended to provide participants with the range of knowledge and skills to perform the following functions associated with:

•    Early stage (pre start-up) venture creation process
•    Developing personal skills and strategies that will support the creation and start up of a new venture
•    Develop business knowledge and skills to establish a new venture opportunity in a range of business contexts 
•    Engaging in entrepreneurship / intrapreneurship activity
•    Establishing new venture opportunities that can emerge as micro, small, or medium ventures by either entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs

The following units are covered in the Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation. These unit topics are designed to enhance or develop skills for those who already manage or are intending to manage a small business.   

BSBSMB401 - Establish business legal and risk management requirements of a small business 
You will acquire the knowledge required to identify and comply with the regulatory, legal, taxation and insurance requirements, and risk management needs of a small business.
NVCTEA403A - Establish the new venture team and demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership
You will learn the requirements to establish, manage and maintain cohesive new venture founding teams. Venture founding teams might include entrepreneur/s as well as permanent or non-permanent team members, including members who belong to other businesses.
NVCENT401A - Develop and apply skills as an entrepreneur and intrapreneur
In this unit you will learn the knowledge, skills and performance outcomes required to identify the characteristics of entrepreneurship / intrapreneurship and their roles in identifying the key requirements for a new venture and applying those requirements, including the application of ethical values to the formation of a new venture.
NVCOPP402A - Generate new ideas and assess opportunities
You will learn to apply creative thinking and problem solving strategies to generate ideas that may become innovative and feasible opportunities for new ventures. Entrepreneurs / intrapreneurs undertaking this unit of competency may have multiple ideas for new business opportunities to be explored and assessed for feasibility.
BSBSMB420 - Evaluate and develop small business operations

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and develop small business operations. It applies to individuals who operate a small business which stands alone, or that is part of a department within a larger organisation. Individuals in this role use problem-solving skills and take responsibility for developing approaches to evaluating and developing business operations.

NVCRES404A - Project, source and monitor the financial and other resource requirements for new ventures
You will learn to identify, source and monitor the resource requirements of a new venture.  The process of acquiring funding for a new venture involves identifying, monitoring and reviewing capital requirements, start-up costs, funding options and potential profitability. The preparation of a cash budget provides the entrepreneur / intrapreneur future cash estimations for the new venture.  The preparation of a projected income statement will assess the profitability of the new venture.  
NVCMOD405A - Develop the business model
The unit requires the learner to develop a business model that is guided by a planning process. The business model describes an organisation’s core strategy to support the achievement of the new venture’s business objectives. It forms the rationale of how the venture will create, deliver and capture economic, social or cultural value.
NVCSOC406A - Develop, apply and promote social entrepreneurship 
Social entrepreneurship has gained increasing prominence in recent years through individuals seeking to work within, engage in and promote social entrepreneurship and/or establish a new venture within an identified social structure or community. The unit prepares individuals with support strategies to enhance participation in social entrepreneurship, with a focus on diversity and nascent disadvantaged communities. 

Assessment
Assessment occurs in a simulated work environment and consists of assignments, projects and presentations. If you are employed, assessment can occur in the workplace. 

Delivery format
The qualification can be delivered in a variety of formats including face-to-face over an extended period, in an intensive mode, online, or a blend of face-to-face and online.
